What I Do
I offer one to one tuition in Southampton and also online internationally @ £30 an hour. I teach beginner to advanced level, all modern styles, specialising in blues, rock, fusion, funk and acoustic.
I’ve been teaching guitar since 1989, by which point I had already been a professional, gigging musician for 6 years. Since then I have amassed years of experience teaching individuals, who have gone on to play in anything from the pub/club circuit to playing with the likes of Jessie J and Sam Smith.

I don’t teach songs from tab. I’m dedicated to helping students develop their ability to improvise, play by ear and truly listen. I help you understand the theory that you need to know, from basic scales to advanced modal progressions, but my motto is keep it simple! I teach in a way that helps you focus on playing and developing technique rather than getting bogged down with theory.

This is how I play most of the time. You will find many teachers who can help you to learn a solo by tab or memory, but my approach is to help you hone the ability to jam and improvise, to give you the skills to nail it when it does come to those killer solos!
Online or In-Person?
All you need is a guitar and the willingness to learn. Lessons by Zoom are simple, flexible and mean that you can learn from anywhere. Apple users can also reach me with Face-Time if that suits you better. Payment must be made upfront, usually via PayPal – please contact me to discuss alternative options.
